Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQ's for the inter-nerds)
Where did the idea for these cards come from?
We created Walk a Mile Cards because we have found, time and again, that lasting change starts with empathy. It is incredibly powerful, both as a way to unite people and to spur them on to consider new ideas and take meaningful action. We wanted to see if these exercises could help promote empathy in the conditions that most impacted our own lives. If you have a suggestion for a deck, please drop us a line here.
How do I use the cards?
However you want. We have seen the cards used for everything from conversations with friends to help people understand a given condition to large medical ideation sessions to corporate training events to group therapy. The cards explore human experiences that anyone can connect to, so you can use them to create empathy anywhere, any time.
How do I know if I'm doing it right?
There is no answer key. There are no "correct” responses. There are only shared experiences and deeper discussions. Empathy is rooted in curiosity. The more you engage, the more curious you get about the experience of others, which makes you engage further. If that's happening, you are doing it right.
I want you to consider adding my experience to an existing deck of Walk a Mile cards. What should I do?
